- Not only was the environmental awareness of staff and students successfully raised, considerable reduction in the consumption of electricity and water was also achieved and our CO2 emissions have recorded a reduction of over 1000 tonnes! In addition, campus green space has increased significantly by over 50%! These achievements are excellent proofs of our efforts on energy conservation and campus greening. Our concerted efforts has been recognised by the society leading to the winning of the Silver Award at the 2011 Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence (HKAEE)—Sectoral Awards (Public Organisations & Utilities), the Wastewi$e label for two consecutive years (by HKAEE) and the Gold Prize in the “Green Purchaswi$e Award (Corporation)” category of the Hong Kong Green Awards 2010. These achievements have brought tremendous encouragement to our past and future campus sustainability works.
- With the implementation of the 3-3-4 academic reform, there is an inevitable increase in our consumption of energy and resources, bringing a brand new challenge to the project of “Sustainable Low Carbon Campus”. This added pressure has further raised our sense of responsibility, and our response to this pressure is to not just continue the effort on building a low carbon campus, but also to extend our work to nurture a low carbon culture in the society. We believe guccithat this University has the capacity and responsibility to work with different stakeholders in the society to make sustainable community a reality in Hong Kong.
