- Origin of Sustainable Development
- The key concept was ignited from “Our Common Future” from the United Nations World Commission on Environment and Development (WCED) published in 1987 and the adoption of Agenda 21 of the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio established the Commission of Sustainable Development. Four main approaches were outlined in the Agenda 21:
- (1) Social and Economic Dimensions (2) Conservation and Management of Resources for Development (3) Strengthening the Role of Major Groups (4) Means of Implementation
- Sustainable Development by the United Nations’Definition: “meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”
