Background
Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) is an environment conscious tertiary educational institution which always prides itself on whole person education. Over the years, the University cares about all campus activities' impact on climate change.
In 2009, the Environmental Health and Safety Committee, which reports directly to the Senior Executive Committee, has successfully obtained the University's Strategic Development Fund. With this support, the Committee undertakes the project on "Sustainable Low Carbon Campus", and a delegated "Task Force on Sustainable Campus" has been established to formulate sustainable policies for the University.
The Low-carbon working team, under the Estates Office, commit themselves in the low-carbon initiatives of the University, which aims at reducing our carbon footprint through enhancing sustainability culture; strengthening energy conservation; increasing green purchasing; expanding wider network for promotion; making concerted efforts and promoting our achievement in a collaborative manner.
Organisation Structure
To map out a clear path of steering the University towards a "Sustainable Low Carbon Campus", a Task Force on Sustainable Campus (Task Force), comprising academic and administrative colleagues and students, has been constituted since 2009 under the EHSC. The Task Force also takes the lead to provide guidance and support during the development process of transforming the University into a low carbon campus. Additional University members will be invited to the Task Force as and when required.
